The CocoNuts gave back to FIRST by volunteering for two days at the Arizona West FIRST Robotics Competition Regional at Grand Canyon University in Phoenix.... The CocoNuts were vital in making sure that the whole event ran on time and helping teams get their robots up and running if any teams had any technical issues.... The team members say that they gained valuable skills in fixing common connection problems that robots experience, which will help our team members help other teams when we travel to World Championship in a couple weeks.
Working with Habitat for Humanity, the students completed the final touch-ups and clean-up of an almost completed home build. The students learned how their small effort is part of a larger picture and that their work will assist a family in need to receive affordable and adequate housing.
They spent the day cleaning up the very neighborhoods they live in as well. They took pride in being able to provide their neighbors and families with clean streets, parks and school grounds. Students left feeling empowered and helpful. Due to their help in this project, South Mountain was able to clean over 5 miles of streets within the surrounding community.
