"My experience as a club sponsor for Central High School Adventure Club has been amazing. In high school, I was also a member of the Adventure Club and can remember going on these great adventures. The first time I saw the beach was with this club. This club showed me what the world has to offer outside of buildings. It is amazing to see students who have never been out of Phoenix. I love the look on their faces the first time they see snow or go up north and see trees taller than buildings. I love being the sponsor of this club because I feel that I have come full circle and now can give back to students by taking them to these astonishing places.
Adventure club really gets kids out of their comfort zone to try new things. I think my greatest moment as a club sponsor was when one of my students was struggling to hike out of the Grand Canyon, and he felt like giving up. I helped him get to the top by helping him realize his potential. When he made it to the top, his face lit up and he was so proud of himself. It really is rewarding when I help students overcome obstacles that they feel they could not do, but end up being successful. I think this helps them realize that this applies in their everyday lives too. I have had many of these memorable moments as a club sponsor, and it really is magical to be a part of them."
