School: North High
WHY: The robotics club needs a TIG welder in order to weld aluminum pieces for the robot. The ability to TIG weld would allow the robotics club to construct stronger, more intricate, and more practical robot designs that would be more competitive during the robotics competition that would otherwise not be possible or feasible by other means.
Learning to weld, especially aluminum, is a very practical skill to have that the kids can have for the rest of their lives. It takes patience, tests their precision and accuracy measuring skills, introduces them to the properties of various materials (chemistry), as well as tests them on their practical structural designs.
