School: Tempe High School
WHY: Peer Solutions youth wear these t-shirts to weekly peer education workshops, at all volunteer projects, our Days at the Capitol and out in the community. For the past 23 years our youth have been identified by their shirts. There is also a positive message and logo on the shirt that has also remained constant for the past 23 years. The message is Demonstrating Respect as the Norm with the I love you hand sign. The youth internalize this message and spread it to others including family, peers, and everyone with whom they come into contact. These students also wear these t-shirts to weekly meetings at Tempe High which encourages others to join. We are out of shirts, have changed our name from STAND & SERVE to Peer Solutions because STAND has been taken out of names across the country because it as seen as ableist to some. A minimum of 80% of our youth qualify for free and reduced lunch and represent marginalized communities.
