Organization: Trevor G. Browne High School
WHAT:Tour guides who are retired Phelps Dodge employees lead tour groups 1,500 feet into the mine and recount mining days, techniques, dangers and drama. Adding a personal touch, the miner-turned-tour guides help visitors experience what it was like to work underground.
WHY:Students have learned about the Bisbee Mine Deportation in 1917 in their American History courses and have expressed interest in touring the mine since many of them have never seen a mine in real life. Also, since we are in Phoenix the day trip would allow students to see other cities in Arizona as our club plan stops for historical markers and meals on our excursions.
