Our Recycling Club was the first of its kind in the Phoenix Union High School District. Our program started 7 years ago and was used as a model for all of the Phoenix Union schools to start their own recycling programs. We have been honored by the district and this year by the Arizona Recycling Coalition where one of our sponsors earned the Recycling Representative of the year award. We received grants for all of our recycle bins on campus, do the recycling ourselves through a student club and our Community Skills Special Education program, and have started a small garden and greenhouse to be able to grow our own food. We have had HUGE successes with this program and went from having no recycling program, to just one for paper and now one where we can recycle everything on campus that we can also recycle at home. Our students do all the work, empty all the bins and put all of our recycling into our solar compactor. Our district recycles almost every material and is at the forefront of school recycling in our state. More information about our club can be found here.
