Why we need this: Through gardening, students become responsible caretakers. We have an opportunity to engage in agricultural practices on a small scale, learning about the responsibilities and impacts of land cultivation. We explore the web of interactions among the living and non-living players that sustain life. School gardens also teach students concepts and skills that integrate with several subjects, such as math, science, art, health and physical education, and social studies, as well as several educational goals, including personal and social responsibility.
