Phoenix community unites to organize Prom for Phoenix High School
Desiderata High School Program receives donated venue, photographers, DJ, food, and decorations to host first large Prom for students
PHOENIX – The Desiderata High School Program Prom is taking place on Saturday April 25th at SEED SPOT in downtown Phoenix. Desiderata is a small school that serves special education students in the Phoenix Union High School District. Because of the school’s small size they have not had the resources to hold a Prom off campus in the past. This year the community has come together to provide resources for the students to celebrate their first prom off of the school campus!
“We would like to have a nice venue for our Prom this year,” requested Patty Sanchez, the Student Government club sponsor. Registration for this year’s prom is already double from last.
Sanchez first contacted Support My Club to post their needs to bring life to the students’ chosen Prom theme - ‘China Dreams.’ Support My Club reached out to donors for their support, and the community response was overwhelming. Through SupportMyClub.org, community members donated over $500 for food and decorations for the Prom, including large, stand up dragons and paper lanterns. SEED SPOT has also provided their beautiful downtown space and chaperones so that the students may enjoy views of Phoenix while dancing the night away.
Additional community support for the prom includes, DJ Cordero Photography, Brent Brooks Photography, Darkside Entertainment, the Co+Hoots Foundation, and Panda Express. In gratitude the students will submit thank you notes with photos for donors and complete community service to continue the cycle of philanthropy.
Support My Club is a non-profit website where high school clubs and teams post their specific needs to empower them to be the best students, leaders and teams that they can be. Donors “shop” online for items that align with their interests and giving abilities. SMC has requests in Academics, Activities, Arts and Athletics and items range from $5 to thousands – allowing anyone to support education. Upon checkout, the donor receives a 100% tax-deductible receipt and SMC delivers the item directly to the school. In addition to a thank you note and photo from the club or team, students complete one hour of community service for every $100 of items received, continuing the full cycle of philanthropy.
